RomAge Database (Regarding the Visual Dimension of Aging)

The database – which will continue to be updated throughout the project – displays in chronological order, from oldest to newest, known depictions of aging and old men and women. Data is gathered and structured by region, since it was typical for Roman art to blend local traditions with the shared visual vocabulary. Clicking on one of the links below will take you to one of three Western provinces (Hispania, Gallia, Italia) to explore the depiction of old age in the late Roman Empire.
